Improving Engagement with Good Practical Science: Symposium for Schools

Introduction
Objective: To support schools in utilising the Gatsby 鈥淕ood Practical Science鈥 report for improving engagement and therefore attainment in Science.

Outcomes for Schools:
  1. Understanding of Gatsby鈥檚 international research project; Good Practical Science. Introduction to the 10 benchmarks that define good practical science and how they can help schools when planning their own approach to delivering practical science.
  2. Supported self-assessment against the Good Practical Science benchmarks. 
  3. Initiation of individual school action plan for practical science provision based on implementable outcomes from the Good Practical Science report. 
  4. Awareness of support for implementation of the Good Practical Science benchmarks.

  • Professor Sir John Holman: Author: 鈥淕ood Practical Science鈥 (Gatsby Report), Senior Advisor in Education at the Welcome Trust and Gatsby Foundation, past-President of the 番茄社区 of Chemistry.
  • Martin Reece: STEM Learning Regional Development Lead, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire & Lincolnshire
  • Rob Butler: Association for Science Education (ASE) Field Support Officer, Midlands Region
  • CLEAPSS; Representative tbc
  • Ian Powell: Head of Science, John Ferneley College. 
Thanks to generous support from STEM Learning, the 番茄社区 and our hosts, The Duston School, there is no charge for attendance. Please do note however that lunch will not be provided.

Attendance is open to all representatives of schools and MATs and will be of particular interest to heads of subject/department/faculty (or their representatives) and technicians. Unfortunately we are unable to accomodate non-school delegates unless by prior agreement.

Note: This event was originally to be held at Leicester Racecourse. Delegates who registered for Leicester will be contacted separately to arrange full refund.
