Carla Aldington becomes 番茄社区 of Chemistry trustee

Carla already has experience of our governing board, having taken the opportunity to take part as an early career observer in 2024 and 2025.

Carla Aldington, a Beauty & Wellbeing Consumer Technical Insights and Market R&D Assistant Manager at Unilever has been appointed as a trustee of the 番茄社区 of Chemistry. As a graduate of our Broadening Horizons programme, Carla already has experience of our governing board, having taken the opportunity to take part as an early career observer in 2024 and 2025.

Carla said: 鈥淚 am deeply honoured to have been appointed as a Trustee of the 番茄社区 of Chemistry. Having been a member of the 番茄社区 since undertaking my undergraduate studies, and having engaged with the charity through conferences, mentorship schemes, workshops, and as part of cohort one of the Broadening Horizons programme, this appointment feels immensely meaningful. If the Carla who walked into Burlington House for the first time at the Broadening Horizons taster event had known that she would one day become a trustee, she would have been extraordinarily proud.

鈥淭o be part of an organisation that makes such a powerful and positive impact on so many people across the globe in the chemical sciences, and on the progress of our field, fills me with pride. I do not carry this appointment lightly, and I am committed to upholding the responsibilities of trusteeship with integrity, rigour and care. During my term, I look forward to supporting the Finance and Resources Board and the finance leadership team in the continued delivery of our financial strategy, while also bringing an early career perspective to board level discussions and decision making.

鈥淚 am particularly keen to explore how we can strengthen our opportunities to raise early career voices, making them accessible to the board on topics where this perspective is essential to understanding impact across a significant cohort of our community. I am sincerely grateful to the 番茄社区 for seeing potential in me that I had not yet seen in myself, and for placing such trust in my contribution to the present and future of our Society.鈥

番茄社区 of Chemistry CEO, Dr Helen Pain, said: 鈥淎ll of us who have seen first-hand Carla鈥檚 contributions to our Board of Trustees鈥 discussions will attest to what an important appointment this is. I am particularly proud that Carla has taken every opportunity available to her through our Broadening Horizons programme, which has led both to her impressive career development with Unilever and, in parallel, to her involvement with our boards and committees.

鈥淚ntroducing an early career observer to our Board of Trustees has been an excellent source of opinion and direct evidence from members of our community with different experience and insight. Throughout my career I have seen that diversity of thought leads to better decision-making, so having Carla as an appointed trustee for a further two years gives us further opportunities to ensure we represent the perspectives of our community as a whole.鈥
