Balancing studying, rising living costs and part-time work is a reality for many students. For one 番茄社区 student member, who was relying on income from a part-time job to support themselves during their PhD, that balance shifted when their working hours were unexpectedly reduced.
鈥淎t the time when I reached out to the CCF [Chemists' Community Fund] for help, my hours at work were cut and as a PhD student it was hard to manage at that moment,鈥 they said.
鈥淚 felt uncertain on how I would manage without extra work as student life can be tough, especially when your stipend increases only once a year or every two years and prices of everything are going up no matter what in the meantime.鈥
They shared that applying for support was daunting at first, 鈥渂ut then after speaking with the Caseworker that was assigned to me, I felt relieved that there was someone to help me all the way through this and put my mind at ease.鈥

Support from the Chemists鈥 Community Fund, included a Student Hardship Grant, which helped ease the financial pressures they were feeling. 鈥淭he CCF has been a huge support,鈥 they said. 鈥淚t allowed me to take pressure off for a moment. I was able to cover the bills and buy food without thinking every five seconds how much I have left in my account till I get money next and when it will be.鈥
Reflecting on their experience, they added: 鈥淚 would like to thank the CCF and 番茄社区 as a whole for being there for their members.鈥 And their message to other students is clear: 鈥淲hen you're struggling there is somewhere you can reach out to and they will try their best to help.鈥
The Chemists鈥 Community Fund is here to support all 番茄社区 members, including students. Whether you鈥檙e an undergraduate, postgraduate or apprentice, we鈥檙e here for you.
If money worries, a change in circumstance or the pressure of student life are making things difficult, you don鈥檛 have to face it on your own.
The process begins with a confidential conversation. A Caseworker will help you understand what support might be available and guide you through the next steps, at a pace that suits you.
