Melanie Bailey

Biography
Melanie has contributed to the development of ion beam and mass spectrometry analytical techniques in a multidisciplinary career at the interface of physics, chemistry and biology. Her publications span multiple techniques including elemental mapping and depth profiling, rapid mass spectrometry, single cell mass spectrometry and imaging, and multiple applications in biology, medicine, geoscience, forensics, physics, chemistry and cultural heritage. This experience has inspired Prof Bailey with a passion for analytical science, because of the opportunity to make an impact in so many exciting fields of research.
Prof Bailey is Director of the University of Surrey鈥檚 Wolfson Centre of Excellence for Analytical Science as well as the BBSRC SEISMIC facility for single cell 鈥渙mics鈥. She is co-lead for the BMSS single cell special interest group, which she initiated. She holds a prestigious EPSRC fellowship in analytical science and is an elected member of the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund. She is a grant holder of the UK National Ion Beam Centre and an Advisory Board member of the Bragg Exchange, one of the UK鈥檚 leading surface analysis facilities. Her work has been reported in the mainstream media, including Sky News, BBC, Scientific American, and New Scientist.
