Medicinal chemistry day at Ladies' College, Guernsey

18 March 2014, St Peter Port, Guernsey, United Kingdom

Introduction
This exciting day aimed at year 10 students begins with a talk by Prof Steve Rowland from Plymouth University on 'A sticky problem for seabirds: identification of a mystery spill'. In the practical sessions you will learn how to make paracetamol and test it for purity. Two other hands-on practicals involve a competition to slow down a reaction in order to release a 'drug' at the right time, and you will find out about active ingredients in vitamin C tablets. The day ends with a bang when Dr Ben Littlefield from the University of Reading entertains and educates with his lecture demonstration.
