The historical and future use of PFAS in fire-fighting foams

27 October 2020 19:00-20:00, United Kingdom

Introduction
Firefighting foams are key tools for the control and extinction of liquid fuel fires. This talk traces the origins of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance) use in foams, the switch from long to short chain PFAS, and the development of PFAS-free foams, with an emphasis on the physical chemistry processes that underlie foam properties and performance.
