Not just for the boys – why we need more women in Science, webinar from Dame Professor Athene Donald DBE, FRS, F·¬ÇÑÉçÇø (Hon)

23 January 2024 19:00-20:00

Introduction

In my book I look at both the historical situation for women in science and the situation today.

Children are exposed to stereotypes from their earliest years, and these may impact on the careers and choices they make; this impacts boys as well as girls. If women do enter the STEM professions, and particularly on the physical sciences and technology side, they will often find themselves surrounded by men and their abilities questioned.

There is no doubt progress is being made, but it is disappointingly slow. I finish by considering actions that everyone could take to improve the situation.
