ChemCareers 2026: AI for technical teams/technicians

15 April 2026 12:30-13:30

This event is for ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Members only

Introduction
Join this webinar to hear from technicians working with AI and explore how it's being applied in real-world settings.

In this session, we will hear from technical professionals using artificial intelligence in their day-to-day roles, from automating processes and helping to write procedures and presentations, to cutting edge research and software development.

Webinar speakers:
Gabriele Uliana MSci (Hons), ARCS
Gabriele holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Imperial College London (MSci (Hons), ARCS -  Associate of the Royal College of Science). Shortly after graduating, he became a school science technician and has since worked across a range of educational settings, including a boys’ preparatory school and a large mixed gender mainstream school. Gabriele currently works in a private girls’ school in Essex and has been a school science technician for almost 15 years.

Andrew A. Stewart PhD M·¬ÇÑÉçÇø MInstP MRMS
Andrew is a Transmission Electron Microscopy Facility manager at University College London Department of Chemistry specialising in transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electron crystallography, and the application of artificial intelligence to materials characterisation. His work spans the development of machine learning tools for automated TEM image analysis, including synthetic data generation and real-time nanoparticle segmentation through the TEMPOS software platform. He has contributed to advances in 3D electron diffraction methodologies and ray-tracing simulation via TEMGYM, alongside instrumentation development including open-source electron diffractometer design. His research integrates closed-loop data collection with live AI-driven analysis.

Dr. Keng-Ting (Vic) Sun
Dr. Keng-Ting (Vic) Sun is a PhD-qualified Senior Research Technician at the University of Nottingham. With 15 years of international experience, Vic moved to the UK three years ago to support musculoskeletal and clinical research. Recently, he achieved a major leap in efficiency by integrating AI agents into laboratory governance. By automating complex safety documentation and refining his FHEA application, he has transformed tedious paperwork into streamlined workflows. Remarkably, Vic uses AI for data transformation without prior coding knowledge, empowering technicians to bridge technical gaps. He now mentors students in AI literacy and ethical research.

This webinar will be chaired by the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø of Chemistry's Professional Registration Specialist.

What you will leave with:
  • Practical ideas for using AI in your own context.
  • A clearer understanding of its limitations and risks.
